RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, May 16 -- Saudi leaders told President Bush on Friday they are doing all they can to increase oil production, gently turning aside the president's efforts to bring down prices more rapidly.
No Oil For You
washingtonmonthly.comFound 64 days, 22 hours, 4 minutes, and 55 seconds agoNO OIL FOR YOU.... President Bush has gone to Riyadh once again to beg the Saudis to increase oil production, and once again he's been rebuffed. Here's the explanation: Stephen J. Hadley, the national security adviser, told reporters, "What they're saying to us is" that "Saudi Arabia does not have customers that are making requests for oil that they are not able to satisfy," The Associated Press reported. That's a lovely tautology, isn't it? Needless to say, there's always a price at which the demand for Saudi oil is no greater than what they happen to be putting on the market.

So, the country we've been appeasing for several presidential administrations now, including the present one, just stuck its thumb in George's Bush's eye when he went begging for some more oil production. Giving lie, once again, to the silly oil speculator myth, that rising prices are about supply and demand, the King of Saudi Arabia says that he sees no increased calls for demand from his customers. You have to love how all of these chickens are coming home to roost on George Bush's shoulders.

Over the last several months, I've written a series of essays about how U.S. Sen. John McCain was turning out to be one of the worst candidates we've ever seen run for President (for the latest see here and here ). His montrous flip flops, the serial mistatements about enormous issues like the difference between Sunni and Shiite, the number of troops in Iraq, his position on Social Security, his vote on the 1986 Immigration Act, his position on Immigration Reform today, his admission that he doesn't know how to use a computer.

resident Bush's latest visit with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah was either a farce born of incredible ignorance or a sophomoric charade intended to impress U.S. consumers he's trying hard to get them relief at the gas pump.
Or maybe it was both.
If Bush's visit was just a farce, it helped explain anew why he doesn't favor diplomacy:

Saudi Arabia announced Friday that it will boost oil production by about 300,000 barrels a day to meet increased demand from customers next month. The announcement came after President Bush met with Saudi King Abdullah to appeal for help in bringing down oil prices that are hitting record highs.

Dubya's galavanting through the Middle East, lobbing shots at Obama and seemingly working off the hangover from Jenna's wedding. And then today he got together with the Saudis to "encourage" them to raise oil production. Only problem - the Saudis don't listen to the Bushies anymore . As much as I think people should fixate on Dubya's horrible "Nazi appeasement" speech to the Knesset, this one's gonna resonate. In effect, gas prices are going through the roof, the allies we've spent hundreds of billions to cultivate couldn't care less, and nothing our current Prezidunt says can do anything to mitigate those facts.
