The California Supreme Court has ruled (PDF link):
We conclude that to the extent the current California statutory provisions limit marriage to opposite-sex couples, these statutes are unconstitutional. . . . we determine that the language of section 300 limiting the designation of marriage to a union "between a man and a woman" is unconstitutional and must be stricken from the statute, and that the remaining statutory language must be understood as making the designation of marriage available both to opposite-sex and same-sex couples.

As you all know by now, the march towards universally allowed gay marriage continued today . From my understanding, the specifics of the California case create a legal pathway to gay marriage without actually mandating the legalization of the practice. So I want to be clear, this post is inspired by today's ruling but is not specifically directed at the details of this case.

I don't much care about gay marriage*, (* though I believe the end-game of the "equality" groups is not simply to be able to sit at a partner/spouses bedside in a hospital, have inheritance, share benefits, or the common themes as much as it's about ultimately forcing the rest of society, including places of worship, to accept their lifestyle.

Liberals have been laboring mightily to destroy the family, the foundation of human civilization. This should be a major victory for them. However, by attempting to make a mockery of marriage, Californian kooks may be holding only themselves up for derision.
If decent people still constitute a majority in the state, a constitutional amendment will put an end to this travesty.

Also exciting is the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to allow Oscar Pistorius, a double-amputee sprinter, to compete for a place in the Beijing Olympics : The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the 21-year-old South African is eligible to race against able-bodied athletes, overturning a ban imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

As expected, John McCain who, just like George Bush, opposes marriage equality, condemned the ruling and lent his support to the pro-bigotry amendment in California. Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton support civil unions, but have said that marriage itself should be up to the states to decide for themselves. Ironic, isn't it? The people backing the traditional Republican position are both Democrats. The Republican candidate, meanwhile, backs the radical right incarnation of Republican principles that have ruled the party for many years now.
