Here is something I really, really did not know, or probably even want to know, before a friend emailed me a link today : In the 2001 United Kingdom census, 390,000 people - 0.7 per cent of the population - listed Jedi as their religion.
They are not alone - 20,000 Canadians also listed their religion as Jedi in 2001... Some may list such a choice only as a joke, but there are apparently real churches set up in the model of the Jedi religion as detailed in the Star Wars franchise:
The two cousins and Barney Jones' brother, Daniel, set up the Church of
Jediism, Anglesey order, last year.

If you were to suddenly come to, and found yourself in the middle of a field, dressed as Darth Vader and swinging a crutch , that might be a sign that your drinking problem has gotten a little out of hand.

members of the Jedi Church of England-and their lawyer. This means that Sir Lord Vader Von Drunk-real name Arwel Wynn Hughes-will avoid jail. Quite frankly, after seeing the video of his innocuous attack , I can't believe the judge actually considered putting this guy in jail. [ BBC News ]

District Judge Andrew Straw said the publicity his case had received was perhaps a good thing, and a "wake up call" to deal with his alcohol problem.

Arwel Hughes, who some of you might remember as the fake Darth Vader from one of my favorite news stories earlier this year , has been sentenced to a two-month suspended sentence and a £100 fine .
We're hoping Hughes, who's a chronic alcoholic, something rare in Britain, can stay out of trouble and on the right side of the Force.

…to that far, far away galaxy :
A booze-fuelled Briton pretending to be Star Wars villain Darth Vader was punished Tuesday for a bizarre surprise attack on two Jedi fanatics.
Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27 -- who has a chronic alcohol problem -- donned a black bin bag for a cape and used a metal crutch for a lightsabre when he impersonated the Dark Lord of the Sith on March 25.
He then lept over the wall of a "Jedi Church" where Barney Jones and his cousin Michael were duelling with lightsabres while filming a documentary.

The long-running saga of the assault on the British Jedi's ended today when Darth Vader escaped a prison sentence and was instead ordered to pay fines totalling 260 British pounds ($500). He was also given a suspended prison sentence.
The judge was on the verge of sending the Dark Lord to prison for the maximum possible term but abruptly changed his mind when Vader lifted his hand and waved it from side to side, while at the same time telling the judge that he "found his lack of faith disturbing".

A few months ago I wrote about the Jedi Church some guys founded in England. I made a smart ass comment as I usually do about the Church of the Sith. I wasn't far off the mark. It seems members were dueling with lightsabers when some drunk fool yelling "Darth Vader" attacked them. I knew the sith would eventually reveal themselves. It was being videoed so you can see it for yourself.
