Now that he has caught up with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the superdelegate count, Senator Barack Obama is clashing more directly with Senator John McCain (so is Mrs. Clinton, for that matter).
On Friday, Mr. McCain went after Mr. Obama, portraying him as a favorite of Hamas who is willing to negotiate with Iranâs president.
âBut important nuances appear to have been lost in the partisan salvos, particularly on Mr. McCainâs side,â writes The Timesâs Larry Rohter â" and we know, youâre floored by the loss of nuance.

The one metric on which Senator Clinton did not have to resort to Enron accounting in order to count herself ahead, superdelegates, has finally fallen, as Sen. Obama has picked up enough superdelegates to be ahead in that category as well . The Grey Lady piece cited notes that Sen. Clinton "regrets" making her remarks about she being stronger among less-educated White voters.
The cynical among us would say she regrets it because it didn't work, and only accelerated a pre-existing trend among super-delegates to bolt for Obama.

Despite general consensus that the math is stacked against her (though even Obama admits that the nomination is far from locked up) I don't believe for a second that, by staying in the race, Senator Clinton is deliberately attempting to sink the good ship Democrat (along with its soon-to-be-chosen Captain) under the weight of her unnatural and double plus ungood ambition (sigh). Rather, it seems apparent that she's pragmatically attempting to put herself in a strong position to work with Obama so she can achieve certain concessions.

The debate rages, both within the chattering class and among folks in general, about whether Hillary Clinton was out of bounds in remarks this week on her appeal to white, working-class voters (see the comments generated by this posting ).
New York Times columnist Bob Herbert has his mind made up, and the result today was an Op-Ed piece that eviscerates not only Hillary but Bill Clinton as well.
Herbert pulls no punches, especially in his last paragraph: "The Clintons should be ashamed of themselves.
