Cleric's militia agrees to let Iraqi troops into Sadr City
Followers of rebel cleric Muqtada al-Sadr agreed late yesterday to allow Iraqi security forces to enter all of Baghdad's Sadr City and to arrest anyone found with heavy weapons in a surprising capitulation that seemed likely to be hailed as a major victory for Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
In return, Sadr's Mahdi Army supporters won the Iraqi government's agreement not to arrest Mahdi Army members without warrants, unless they were in possession of "medium and heavy weaponry.

May 9. I read tonight a brief article by Philip Giraldi posted on the American Conservative website: " War with Iran Might Be Closer than You Think ."
"There is considerable speculation," writes the former CIA officer, "and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods [Revolutionary Guards]-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants. The camp that will be targeted is one of several located near Tehran.

Former CIA officer and Antiwar.com columnist Philip Giraldi has a new scoop at the American Conservative blog.
There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants. The camp that will be targeted is one of several located near Tehran. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates was the only senior official urging delay in taking any offensive action.

Its seldom that I link to a blog called "The American Conservative" but the headline and the text made me worry and if a large conservative blog is writing the following you would think this is something not of a "conspiracy theory" right? If the person writing the blog post - Phil Giraldi - is a former CIA man you get more worried:
There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants.

If Phil Giraldi is right, war with Iran may be right around the corner. Giraldi writes of "buzz" in the imperial city "suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants." This is despite the lack of evidence connecting Iran with Iraqi "insurgents". American policy in Iraq seems to be designed toward fomenting tension between Iran and Iraq for purposes of justifying the occupation.

In this final installment, there are two interesting developments that warrant this emergent update to my series on the situation in the Middle East .
[Update 5/11/08 - Commentary on another development was deleted because the report seems suspicious. All the elements have been covered in other reports and it's not credited to anyone, so at this point I think it's just a meme and isn't anything new]
The second development worth noting is that Hezbollah has mysteriously decided to quit their positions in Beirut , though the Lebanese Prime Minister is maintaining a hard line.

This is from from amconmag. The "con" in amconmag stands for conservative not "con" ! However given the source perhaps some doubt is in order! Yet, there has been a plethora of articles blaming Iran for this that and the other and these seem to be designed to soften up te U.S. public for a possible attack on Iran.

from the American Conservative, here .
There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants. The camp that will be targeted is one of several located near Tehran . Secretary of Defense Robert Gates was the only senior official urging delay in taking any offensive action. The decision to go ahead with plans to attack Iran is the direct result of concerns being expressed over the deteriorating situation in Lebanon, where Iranian ally Hezbollah appears to have gained the upper hand against government forces and might be able to dominate the fractious political situation.
