An informal Middle East advsior to Barack Obama q uit the campaign yesterday as the advisor's ties to Hamas were about to become more publicized.
Rob Malley said he wanted to stop being a distraction for the campaign after facing attacks from the blogosphere for months for allegedly being anti-Israel, a charge he denies.
...Malley's departure comes at a sensitive time for Obama, who appears to be nearing the Democratic nomination but has struggled to win the support of Jewish and pro-Israel voters.

Malley was one of a select group of Obama foreign policy advisers mentioned by both Newsweek and the Washington Post last fall. However, after coming under scrutiny in the blogosphere, he was suddenly "one of dozens of middle-level types who send position papers to the campaign and sometimes get together to talk" in a March 2008 New York Times report.

I love these stories.
They remind me of a book I read in college called "The Image" by Daniel Boorstin. He wrote in in 1960. It was all about staged news, news that was not real news but was essentially just public relations.
Here's the facts. Rob Malley could not be fired by Obama because he never worked for Obama. Every four years Presidential candidates put together long lists of "advisers" on this or that subject to occasionally meet and pretend they have influence (I have been on those lists and have been at the meetings in three or four Presidential elections).

You know, the same Hamas that endorsed the Messiah back in April? Yeah, that one .
Robert Malley told The Times he had regularly been in contact with Hamas, which controls Gaza but is listed by the US State Department as a terrorist organisation. Such talks, he stressed, were related to his work for a conflict resolution think tank and had no connection with his position on Mr Obama's Middle East advisory council.

Obama apparently has no advisors or campaign committee; or even friends, pastors, political associates or real estate buddies. His entire professional and personal life is a gossamer skein of loose and impermanent connections to people he doesn't really know, people whose ideas are unknown to him, people who are free agents, vapors, without the slightest formal link to Barack Obama….like Samantha Power, Jerry Wright, Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, and now, Robert Malley .
In fact, one can say that Barack The Innocent is afflicted with Contingent Amnesia -that intermittent mental impairment, of politicians, which comes and goes depending upon the merit of the publicity connected to a person or issue.

Let's not hyperventilate about the importance of Robert Malley removing himself (or getting pushed) from Sen. Obama's campaign. He was on an advisory committee along with a host of other people. Most have very little contact with the daily functions of the campaign. It's like Eugene Volokh and Orin Kerr on Sen. McCain's Justice Advisory Committee . Eugene was also part of Lawyers for Fred Thompson and didn't play an active role. Allahpundit gets it right, "Which makes this sound less like a case of someone being âfiredâ than simply being disinvited from sitting in on more conference calls.

In the recent dust up between the Obama and McCain campaigns, the Obama camp howled about McCain's assertion that Hamas wanted Obama to win, while the McCain camp complained about Obama's use of the words "lost his bearings." McCain, ever the gentlemen, graciously announced that he didn't mind Obama losing elderly votes (which he will, based on that comment).
Of course, McCain's assertion that Hamas wants Obama to win is now proven 100% true, as another Democrat gets the heave ho from a campaign for exposing the truth about allied interests.

The latest example of this comes from the revelation that noted Israel-hater and former Clinton advisor Robert Malley has been advising the Obamian One on Middle East matters. Malley's presence caused problems early for the Obama campaign, but Obama duly claimed back then that Malley had only offered "informal advice" and had no formal role- nothing to see there. But now the Times Online reports that not only is Malley still " one of Barack Obama's Middle East policy advisers ", but that he also, serendipitously in keeping with Obama's announced intention to talk with the enemy, has connections with Hamas .

According to the Register, Google has killed the AdSense account of Enturbulation , a site ran by Anonymous, the group that's got their panties twisted in a knot over Scientology.
The reason is quite obvious: Enturbulation talks about Scientology a lot, and AdSense picks up the context wrong, serving a bunch of pro-Scientology ads there (which are, most probably, the only Scientology-related ads there are).

The Obama campaign has now sacked Malley after Malley disclosed that he has held meetings with one of those enemies, Hamas. Malley, in fact, has been in regular contact with Hamas, and has never concealed that fact.

Instead of attempting to explain why talking to terrorists is easy to misinterpret and how the "politics of hope" mean reaching out to former enemies, Obama quickly fires and severs all ties with an adviser who held meetings with Hamas .
It looks like Obama has finally recognized that it's politically suicidal to try and provide nuanced, reasonable explanations for things like this and has instead adopted the standard campaign policy of immediate, overwhelming response to all burgeoning scandal-fodder.

Read Matt Yglesias and Dylan Matthews on Obama's shameful jettisoning of Robert Malley. The story is that Malley, who was an informal Obama foreign policy adviser, works with the International Crisis Group. As part of his ICG work - the ICG perhaps being the most respected conflict resolution NGO - met with leaders of Hamas so as to better know what was going in Gaza and help, yes, resolve the conflict . Sure, Hamas is a horribly sundry group, all of whom would be happy to see me dead, but that doesn't change the fact that they're the democratically elected representatives and government of the Gaza Strip.

This Times (U.K.) article illustrates a continuing problem of Obama and those he turns to for counsel. This time it's a pro-Hamas worthy, one Robert Malley, who's been advising Obama's campaign on the Middle East.
This makes some sense. After all, Hamas is pro-Obama , it makes sense there's some kind of quid pro quo.
Of course no one will step right up and claim to be pro-Hamas who expects to gain our presidency. I don't believe for a moment that Barack Hussein Obama is pro-Hamas. Just that he's got the moral blindness to not care if his associates are.
