The appalling disaster suffered by the citizens of Burma (Myanmar) raises a difficult moral question. Before considering it, let's review the scope of the devastation : Burma, already the poorest country in Southeast Asia, shows all the
signs of total collapse. It's been four days since the killer cyclone
ripped across the Irrawaddy delta in Burma's south and devastated the
city of Rangoon -- home to 6 million people -- before cutting a swathe
through the jungle on the Thai border.

Ironically he also picked up some of McCain's language in his speech - speaking of the imperfect person - which McCain has used in most of his speeches - and in the many patriotic references to America, his love for it, the flag draped coffin of his father and his grandfather's service in WWII - as well as his continued call for party and national unity.

After all, if they had that ability, we wouldn't be seeing stories about their ineffective peacekeeping in the Congo, where the 'peacekeepers' were too busy smuggling gold and running guns to the militias when they weren't busy trading food for sex to keep much peace. etc., etc. Nope, if anything has to be done, it will fall on the Imperialist Running Dog United States Navy.

Let that sink in for just a minute.
It's times like this that often make us feel helpless. I mean, what can one person do when they hear of thousands of bodies just floating in the water? Well, one person can give a little money towards the relief and when thousands of those persons begin to give…we begin to make a big impact.

The issues of U.S. aid and criticism from the U.S. are a bit complex and I don't want to take a detailed stand on them without know more. At present it sounds as if Burma is accepting aid from neighbors [who tend not to be criticial] and the U.N., but not the U.S.. But I will say that this is a disaster and not a government crackdown, the death toll itself critiques the government, even without a free media to spread the details.

It is really staggering to think about the number of deaths from catastrophes such as the cyclone that hit Myanmar or the great tsunami of 2005. It seems like wherever extremely poverty-stricken people gather en masse they sooner or later get wiped out by huge storms or other acts of nature. To a lesser extent in numbers of lives the same could be said about residents of trailer parks. A cynic much greater than I -- if you believe he or she exists -- would say that perhaps these people are getting punished for being so poor.

Been busy doing my bit, been thinking about this and that, been away from the 'puter most of the time, and I still don't have much to say right now. It's Wednesday evening and I'm having a stretch and listening to Bowie at the moment, but that will switch to something else soon as I'm on shuffle. Hung some stuff on the walls this weekend and I like how it's looking.
It seems over 100,000 people may have died in the storm in Myanmar . The criminal military junta that rules the nation is still turning away international aid in their mad paranoia.

The blog has been quiet this week, mostly because I've been knee-deep in packing and cleaning preparing for our Saturday move into Chicago. And while I should probably be doing something moving related, I couldn't ignore this headline: Hoping For Ungodly Returns, Christian Video Sharing Site GodTube Gets $30 Million Funding .
$30 million. That's a lot of money. To me, anyway.
Is it a good investment? A good use of money? Do we need a Christian version of YouTube?
In (un)related news, deaths in Myanmar from the recent cyclone may reach 100,000 .
