Via Ambinder , the Trinity UCC (the Wright church in Chicago) issues this statement:
[T]he Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.'s character is being assassinated in the public sphere because he has preached a social gospel on behalf of oppressed women, children, and men in America and around the globe."

The story's getting around, launched by Bill Kristol in the New York Times. The problem, according to March Ambinder : It's not true. Obama was headed to Miami during Wright's July 22 sermon. (And the July 22 wasn't even one that Obama denied attending. Very lawyerly, he's said "the statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach.") The whole affair put me in mind of another Ambinder post from November, about how Newsmax 's chief Christopher Ruddy, a former Arkansas Project apparat, had mellowed on Bill Clinton and gotten a friendly interview from him for the magazine.

Two of the more prominent pro-Clinton bloggers out there ( here and here ) are using Sen. Obama's connection to Jeremiah Wright (in the case of Taylor Marsh she goes so far as to regurgitate untrue information from Newsmax and Bill Kristol) to try and prove a point about Senator Obama's judgement.

Obama has said he didn't hear firsthand any of "Wrong Way" Wright's anti-American diatribes. It appears that that statement is not entirely correct . Contrary to Senator Barack Obama's claim that he never heard his pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. preach hatred of America, Obama was in the pews last July 22 when the minister blamed the "white arrogance" of America's Caucasian majority for the world's suffering, especially the oppression of blacks.
Senator Obama has sought to separate himself from his pastor's incendiary remarks, issuing a statement Friday rejecting them as "inflammatory and appalling" but failing to renounce Wright himself for his venomous and paranoid denunciations of America.

Today's fatwa from the new pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, the separatist and anti-American church in which Barack Obama bends his knee, places a pivotal decision before the senator: he is either with them or against them.
The church, whose manifesto and pastor spoke indefensible words of separatism and hate, could have taken its lumps, reformed, and move on. Instead, under the direction of the Reverend Otis Moss II, it came out swinging.

See Charles Krauthammer on the "brilliant fraud" of Barack Obama's defense of Jeremiah Wright. If Wright is a man of the past, why would you expose your children to
his vitriolic divisiveness? This is a man who curses America and who
proclaimed moral satisfaction in the deaths of 3,000 innocents at a
time when their bodies were still being sought at Ground Zero. It is
not just the older congregants who stand and cheer and roar in wild
approval of Wright's rants, but young people as well. Why did you give
$22,500 just two years ago to a church run by a man of the past who
infects the younger generation with precisely the racial attitudes and
animus you say you have come unto us to transcend?

While all that is interesting, it is not the reason for this post.
