Fox News - The Lakota Sioux have declared independence from the United States, unilaterally withdrawing from treaties that the U.S. has routinely ignored, and demanding the return of treaty-protected land in five western states. I wish them luck. More on the story, from the Lakota perspective, at LakotaFreedom.com .
I saved a copy of their Declaration of Continuing Independence (20K PDF) here .

Several Lakota Indians, tired of having the government not live up to its treaty promises, have decided to withdraw from treaty partnerships with the U.S. altogether, forming a new country that includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
"We have 33 treaties with the United States that they have not lived by," Phyllis Young , an Indian rights activist said . "They continue to take our land, our water, our children."

In 1860 this didn't fair so well when a group of people decided to withdraw from the country of the United States.
I honestly don't have a problem with this. Let them have their country and stop being a drain on the United States economy.
I just hope that we limit all aid to this renewed country, and start charging tarifs for all products imported and exported. I also want to see immigration points set up at all entrances and exits to this new country.

Initially reported on Foxnews.com , the Lakota Indian Nation has decided to withdraw from treaties signed 150 years ago. They are offering citizenship, drivers licenses and passports to anyone willing to renounce their American Citizenship.
This is a dangerous and touchy subject. While I understand some of the arguments being stated by the Lakota Nation, ultimately, it weakens both groups, Americans and Natives alike. What will the Lakota Nation do when they cant sustain themselves financially, when they cant feed themselves.

It's not just for the Bush Administration anymore: Lakota Indians declare independence from the United States , withdraw from all treaties, and announce their intention to take chunks of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming with 'em.
The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free - provided residents renounce their U.S. citizenship, Mr Means said.

So the Lakota are withdrawing from the United States? The Lakota Sioux are 'walking away' from the 150 year-old treaties with the United States government? Sounds like another grand publicity stunt. Russell Means is speaking for the movement, but, there are apparently no tribal leaders involved, of any Sioux.

I've told you before about the folks I call devolvers, or devolutionaries, who want nothing more than for the United States to break apart. There are foreign interests that push for this, and the former communist propaganda that serves as "(insert special interest group) studies" programs on college campi are a good example.

A Lakota Indian delegation, part of the Greater Sioux Nation of Indians, has formally withdrawn from all 33 of its treaties with the United States Government and wants to speak with the embassies of Bolivia, Venezuela, Chile and South Africa. They are citing the US Constitution as justification for their actions based on a 1980 treaty Congress approved (there's the specter of the Carter Administration coming back to haunt us again!) at the Vienna Convention giving special recognition to indigenous peoples.

So I will leave you with this. New Orleans City council voted to tear down some public housing to make way for new mixed income housing. Of course a majority of the residents and misguided liberal guilt-ed whiteys, oppose such things so much that they turned violent .
